Beekeeping Around the World
There are a lot of variables that can affect beekeeping, beekeepers, and the bees in their care. Climate is possibly one of the biggest variables, cool weather vs hot dry weather, drastic changes from summer to winter, seasonal storms, all have an effect bees and beekeepers in different ways as well as what kind of forage can grow in those climates.
We see that here in the differences in beekeeping in our "small" region of Sonoma County from Sonoma with their hotter and dryer climate to Bodega with the cool coastal winds, and all the microclimates in between.
So how does beekeeping differ around the world where the climate differs drastically from our own?
We are fortunate to have members who can share their experiences of beekeeping from around the world and will share their stories of how climate, forage, and bee temperament can vary from region to region.
South America: Vivian Marani, Central Cluster, will share her stories of beekeeping and the stingless bees in her home country of Brazil.
Middle East: Mohammed Ibrahim, Central Cluster will share his stories of growing up in a multigenerational beekeeping family in Baghdad, Iraq.
Africa: Candice Koseba, North Cluster, will share of her adventures visiting, and learning from, beekeepers in Kenya.
